FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS Where do your seeds come from? Terroir Seeds LLC and Underwood Gardens works with a network of gardeners and family growers across the country who grow seed out for us. We also work with a handful of selected seed wholesalers. Plus, we grow many of the varieties ourself. Mayo Underwood, the founder of the company grew many of the rare and unique varieties herself, so she could offer them to the general public. We intend to carry on this tradition in our gardens. Will these seeds grow where I live? We tell our customers that most of our seeds will adapt to your area. Some will do better than others the first year. On our flower selection, please pay attention to the zone information, for the best flower choice for your area. If you save your seeds and replant them each year, you will develop plants adapted to your ecosystem. Let us know how your plants do, we love to share this information with our customers.Who is Terroir Seeds LLC? Terroir Seeds is the legal name of our company and the owner of Underwood Gardens. We are a small family company, made up of Stephen and Cindy Scott, who run the day to day operations. Cindy’s parents are part of the company who lend their business expertise and help pack seeds!Do you have live plants for sale? Currently, we do not have any live plants for sale. In the future we may re-offer garlic bulbs and potato slips.Organic versus Heirloom? The term Organic simply means that the produce was certified by an organization to meet their standards. There are several certifying organizations, from the USDA to regional ones. Corporate agriculture and lobbyists have maneuvered in Washington to modify the terms of Organic certification, to the point where Wal-Mart now sells Organic Frito's corn chips... Something is wrong here. Another concern for Organic certification is the cost, which starts at several thousand dollars and rises sharply. We depend on small, regional growers who grow only for us, or for one or two other seed companies. They are very careful in growing for us that no chemicals or pesticides are used, just as they grow the food for their families. We are in the position in the heirloom seed business that we can't buy our seeds from the large companies- they simply don't have the heirloom varieties that we carry. In many cases, we are the only source of seed, or are one of maybe two or three companies. That means that we and our growers grow most of what we carry. Do you have a retail location? Not at this time. We are not setup as a retail location. All our seed is packed on premise and the seed we grow-out from our gardens is processed onsite on our three acres in Chino Valley, Arizona. We are more than happy to take your order by phone, internet or mail. |
